12 Days of Christmas - Day 1 (Devotional by Erik Lundin)

December 23, 2020 Axiom Church

An invitation to read:

Luke 2:8-12; 15

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

When the angels had left the shepherds and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

John 1:14

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The nighttime can be scary.

Because it’s difficult to see what’s hidden in it…

Imagine being a shepherd in the night…

No lights around for miles…

Have you ever been in that kind of darkness?

In the middle of this deep darkness, an angel comes…

And “the glory of the Lord” shines…

Then, the angel speaks…

“Do not be afraid”…

On Christmas,we consider this invitation…

“Do not be afraid”.

Do not be afraid…

Jesus has been born today.

So we can step out of the darkness of our fears…

And travel, with the shepherds, towards this child...

Who is "full of grace and truth".
